Dr. Amr Khaled - Egypt
Amr Khaled is a relatively young Muslim Egyptian preacher and Islamic motivational speaker. He began preaching in mosques at a young age, and then switched to using Satellite TV (his lectures can be seen on the IQRA channel on NILESAT) as his main vehicle. His lectures are popular, and are distributed over the internet as well as on cassette tapes. Amr Khaled reaches out to university-student-aged Muslim Arab youth and aims to present Islam in a modern context. His RightStart Foundation and Life Makers initiative have shifted his work from simply teaching to initiating community development projects.
The stated goal of these programmes is to produce a renaissance for the Arab and Muslim world. Projects in agriculture, education, small industries, healthcare and other fields have been started. Amr Khaled is promoting community development and development in developing nations using what he terms "development using faith". The idea is to move people towards developing their communities and countries using faith as their motivator and guide for moving towards this development.
He is a captivating speaker and while he communicates in Arabic his message has been well received by audiences from all cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
